From 1982 to 1999, Maddy and Tom Arsenault had a kid in college. He the millworker and she the school 'secretary,' they decided on their own, to help their five kids as much as they could. And they did.
They never had a meeting or a conversation with someone 'like me' to check on their idea, they did what they thought was right. As a young adult, I saw the struggles and the fact that they may have worked a little bit longer and harder than they wanted.
Would a meeting with a financial planner in circa 1985 have changed their mind? It's doubful, but, it would have been an informed-decision. And when my father passed in 2014, the trickle effect of these decisions culminated.
Why do I do what I do? So I can have conversations, ask difficult questions, and point out things that have never crossed your mind so you can make those decisions by looking at all angles.
My 'why' are my parents--who worked hard and did everything they could for their kids so we would have a better life than them.
